Run like hell! Money! Money! Money! Our cat Spooky was writhing in pain for some unknown reason so we took her to Mission Pet Emergency on Saturday, Jan 2 2016. We were ushered into a treatment room and waited. After about an hour, our cat was trying to poop and blood and pus came out so I went and got the Vet Tech. She didnt do anything but cleaned up the blood and told me the vet would be there soon. An hour after our cat pooped blood the vet finally came in (a total of 2 hours of waiting - and the vet tech never informed the vet) and I told her that something was wrong with our cat and we didnt know what. She then recommended a battery of tests with a 600 dollar price tag to which I ultimately agreed. When the vet tech came back with the authorization I asked her if I could run my kids who were with me home to get dinner and then come back and she informed me that I would be charged a 160 dollar "hospitalization fee" if I left, and then told me I would have to pay the 600 dollars up front. Neither my kids nor I could figure out what exactly she was saying, but I did ultimately pay the money and they said they would call me after they had X-ray/lab results. After I left, they called an hour or so later and said they discovered Spooky had an abscess near her tail, and that was the problem, and that fortunately the X-ray would not be necessary. They told me they were going to prescribe an antibiotic, but never discussed with me what. I came to learn she was given a shot of "Convenia", which is a one-time shot of antibiotic that lasts for about 2 weeks. No one discussed risks, side effects, or even offered me a choice of an oral antibiotic which would have been my preference since I have never even heard of this shot. When we got home, Spooky was walking, eating, and acting fairly normal. About 2 hours later Spooky vomited, she could not stand or walk, had total lack of appetite, would not drink water and became very lethargic. This continued on through Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. After my wife, kids, and I did research on the internet we found thousands of bad reaction to Convenia stories, and even found a website devoted to eradicating it. Each case reported the same exact symptoms and told stories of how their once normal cat was immobilized, in pain, and miserable - and in about 50% of the cases died. Tuesday night I called Mission Pet and asked them if anything could be done for a bad reaction and explained what happened. The person I talked to (which I assumed was a vet) told me that this was NOT a reaction because it would have happened before 3 days. I told her it started as soon as we got Spooky home. I told her about what I had read about Convenia on line and she insisted that we have no way of knowing that was the problem, and that I should have followed up with my normal vet. I told her "no - this is YOUR screw up, and YOU need to fix it" She said that if I brought her in, they would look at her and charge me a 70 dollar emergency visit fee on top of whatever else they had to do. At this point I was beyond enraged after seeing how upset my kids were and my wife crying over the suffering of our pet and the absolute LACK OF CARING by the vet. The verbal tap-dancing of how its "not their fault" enraged me further and I told them it is absolutely their fault and that they need to fix it. I gave them my trust and money to care for my pet and it is their responsibility to render proper treatment and discuss options with the pet owners. After realizing these clowns were never going to help me, and all these greedy dirt-bags cared about was money, I told this lady where she could go and hung up the phone. Now I am left with a suffering cat. I dont know if she will live or die, and/or if she will be permanently harmed because of this drug. There are only 2 explanations for the worsening of my cats condition: 1. misdiagnoses, or 2. improper treatment - both of which are the fault of Mission Pet Emergency. If I could rate this place negative stars, I would - STAY AWAY!!!

I brought my rabbit in twice, once to get neutered and once the night before he passed away. The neuter was excellent. He was perfectly fine, and I felt like he was really being cared for. I even left to have dinner nearby while he was in their care. They called to let me know every step of the way. The price was high, but he was an exotic and I knew theyd have a big bill with a specialist. The other visit was for poor care at another vet and GI Stasis. Hed been under the care of another "exotic specialist" in the SA area after hed stopped eating and was clearly in pain. The other vet kept him for a few days, gave me a very large bill with no real diagnosis after being in the office for 6-1/2 hours, while my sick friend sat in a back room, surely scared (he wasnt a fan of new places). I got him back caked with the wet food they were feeding him, with a VERY large belly (over-filled, not gained weight). From what Id read on various sites online, the most important thing for a rabbit with GI stasis is a painkiller. This vet gave no pain killer and suggested I basically keep force feeding him to "clear the block". I brought him from San Marcos back to Mission late at night when I could tell he was getting worse. I knew that I wanted him in the caring hands of the folks who handled his neutering so well. I was immediately taken back and the vet came in. She was sad to see the food caked on him and his lethargic behavior. She could tell he was a bunny in pain. She ran a few quick tests and confirmed her suspicion of GI Stasis. She also cleaned him up a little bit so he looked like my bunny again - something she absolutely didnt have to do, but knew it was no way for an animal to live. Even a sick one. The doctor gave him a painkiller on site, some more for me to give him at home and put him on a better treatment plan. I went in expecting to walk out without my Riley, but I left with high hopes and a good treatment plan and a high, but cheery bunny. The drive back to San Marcos with him had him in high spirits, licking me, cuddling and back to his old self. Unfortunately, by no fault of this vet at all, he passed in the night. But thanks to this vet, he went painlessly and happily. They made Rileys last few hours great for me, and much better for him. Thank yall so much. He really was treated like family.

I wanted to take a minute to write an honest and informative review of this clinic because they most certainly deserve one. I have always been extremely cautious when it comes to my dogs receiving proper medical treatment in an emergency situation. I had to bring my Chihuahua here on Saturday because he was having difficulty breathing due to inflammation of his trachea. I drove 40 miles to this clinic because Ive had horrible experiences with the ER vet clinics where I live. When we arrived a vet tech immediately took him back for evaluation and placed him in an oxygen chamber. I hadnt even filled out the paperwork yet. Every place Ive been to makes you sign a resuscitation agreement to perform CPR for a hefty fee before they will treat your pet and thats always bothered me. The entire staff here from the receptionist to the veterinarian were friendly, compassionate and knowledgeable. Within 2 hours they were able to stabilize my dog enough for me to take him home where he began to recover from his latest episode. They did not overcharge me for their services or try to convince me to run an assortment of unnecessary tests. In fact, the overall bill was extremely reasonable and I would have paid nearly double the amount at other clinics. I am very satisfied with our past visit and highly recommend them to anyone who needs emergency treatment for their pets.
