Please go somewhere else for first-time or high-risk pregnancies; especially the American Fork office. I will say I have heard good things about the midwives. Care, attention and service has been very subpar at this office. ===== The Good ===== They look good on paper -- Pretty helpful doctors with experience -- ===== The Bad ===== You almost never see the doctors, they take way too many patients so you deal with the staff. -- The staff are not good. They seem oblivious, disorganized and/or forgetful. -- You will not have things explained to you unless you are specific and persistent. -- Things will not be orderly. -- You will not have time to ask questions. -- You will have to fight for any time or attention regardless of its seriousness. -- You will probably be asked the same questions or asked to do the same tests multiple times; its as if they dont check the patient record. -- They will likely not be prompt getting back to you. -- If/when they do, you will have to fight for a half-decent explanation. ===== Recommendation ===== If you think you will need a little face-time with a qualified professional to deal with any concerns that may come up, then avoid this place; especially if this is your first pregnancy or it has a possibility of being high-risk in any way. -- =====If you want more details===== Specific problems we had with the American Fork office: 1. My wife has a high-risk pregnancy because of thyroid issues. The office simply forgot to perform the first thyroid test and my wife was first tested at 32-weeks. All they told her was that it was, "normal." Her reading was 2.8 and their own nurses said that 1 - 2 was normal. 2. They didnt start medicating her with the first high test result because they claimed she didnt have any prior thyroid problems and had never taken thyroid medication both of which were on her patient record and were explained to the staff multiple times. 3. They dont give any specifics. My wife and her family have dealt with thyroid issues for years and need to know the actual reading to respond appropriately; this simple task took a lot of pushing and at times crying. 4. The third time they went to check her thyroid they had simply forgotten her previous lab results. They dont seem to check the patients records. When performing her glucose test she was asked 3 times if she had done it. 5. When they started her on thyroid medication one nurse said she wouldnt be tested again for thyroid until after pregnancy (in 6 weeks) and thank heavens one of the doctors said they would test her anyway after 2 weeks. 6. On the day my wife was supposed to receive her lab results she called multiple times and left multiple messages throughout the day without a response. She continued calling and leaving messages and then missed the call and got a message saying shed have to increase her dosage; thats all it said. She called more and at 5:00pm when they close was able to talk to a nurse who actually gave her reading and after prying admitted that they had the result yesterday and just neglected to give it to us. In general, they are disorganized and dodgy with questions. I can only imagine someone having "peace of mind" if they didnt really have any complications or concerns with their pregnancy. Definitely not a good practice for first-time or high-risk pregnancies.

I had a very poor experience here. It was my first child so I didnt really know any different, I was so nauseated I was throwing up at least 8 times a day, whenever I spoke with the doctor about it they would say try and drink more fluids and we will see how you are doing next time. The next time it would be a different doctor and they would say the same thing. I was never once prescribed anything and I threw up until the day I delivered. Also I was starting to get very lightheaded and passed out a couple times, I explained to the doctor I had a very high heart rate even while just resting. Dr. Bennett was so rude with me, she stated that my heart is a pump and now its pumping for two and I should feel like crap. She also told me that if I was going to make appointments for anatomy lessons then next time she would give me lesson 2 on the heart. I am a registered nurse, I am not stupid and I know anatomy of the heart I also know people are not supposed to randomly pass out or have a heart rates above 150 at rest. I was so frustrated I asked the nurse there if I could speak to another doctor, she stated they were packed and that I should just go the insta care down the street and get IV fluids. I stated, I cannot just walk into an insta care and get IV fluids because I asked for them, her reply was that she would call down there and tell them I was coming and that it was prescribed. I was still skeptical of this but was willing to try anything. I drove to the insta care and told the receptionist the story and she literally started laughing at me. She said, umm honey you cant just come here and tell me you need and IV I told her I knew that but the nurse said she would call and say it was an order or something. She started laughing again and said there is no such thing as that we cant just take a call in from a nurse. I was so angry at this point I went back to the clinic and asked to speak with the nurse, the receptionist told me she was very busy and couldnt be seen. I told her it was no problem and I would wait. I sat in the waiting room for an hour! I got up again to go speak with the receptionist and she stated that nurse had a family emergency and had actually went home for the day. I have since had another child and went to Utah valley Ob it was a totally different experience PLUS somehow it was half the cost. The office is beautiful and its a very popular place but DO NOT let than entice you to even think about going here. I have never been treated so rude and belittling as I was by Dr. Bennett. Dont waste your time and go somewhere else.

I am seeing two recurring themes here: Rushed appointments and difficulty getting an appointment in a timely manner. To sum up my experience here for the past 4 years, I never feel like the doctors genuinely care about me as their patient. I have never had a child, but I have had problems that need to be addressed for years. Here is how almost all of my experiences have gone: I call to book an appointment and they say the soonest they have is 3 or more weeks out. Okay, sure, whatever. I make an appointment. I get to my appointment early only to wait almost an hour at the least. Finally, I explain to the doctor or nurse my situation, ask questions, they do some poking around, maybe send some samples to get tested, and send me away, all in a matter of about 5-10 minutes. I always leave thinking, "what just happened?" with unanswered questions and not feeling much better. Some questions that I have asked for the past couple of years have still never received a direct answer. Additionally, when I would call the nurses to ask questions every once in a while, they would not answer, the answering machine would say that they will call back by the end of the work day, and sometimes I wont get a call for two days. I had an urgent (not quite emergency, but I couldnt wait, as I was in a lot of pain with an IUD) situation one time and the girl at the counter said I have to book an appointment and they didnt have anything for the next 4 weeks. I was floored. I am not normally a complainer or a high maintenance patient, but I feel so undervalued and unimportant. I have described this place as a revolving door... They just get you in and out so they can move to the next patient and take your copay. They are always very professional and polite in the way they talk to me, but I would rather they talked down to me and actually solved the problems I came to them for. I am currently looking for a new OB because I cant imagine going to Valley OB when I decide to get pregnant. Also, I still have questions I want answered, so maybe someone else will finally help me.
