First I will tell you, I have worked at a couple different veterinary clinics and know typical vet procedures. There is nothing professional about this clinic. My first experience I brought my 2 guinea pigs in. The vet tech started trimming their nails after we noticed they were a bit long. The bill was over $100 more than I expected. I noticed I was charged $18 for each nail clipping. Because they didnt ask me if I wanted it or tell me it was extra, I told them I didnt feel I needed to pay for it. I waited over 30 min for someone with authority to take it off my bill. In my experience, customers are given an sub-total of the estimated value of the entire visit before the final bill, that way they can decide if they want certain procedures (like nail clipping) to be done. After my long, patient wait, they did remove the charge of the nail clippings. I went in a second time for their second ivermectin injection. I was told it would be a quick visit as a vet tech can give the injection. 15 min max is what I was told. I scheduled my appointment for 11:30 am and got there 10 min early. They were not busy. I think there may have been one person in another room. I waited a 1/2 an hour to get into a room. By 12:10 I slipped out of the room and asked a vet tech how much longer it was going to be? I also asked if a vet tech could give the injection? She seemed frantic, like she was busy, but I counted 5 vet techs there and heard them laughing and all talking... maybe she was the one doing all the work. She came in 5 min later and what I am going to tell you next is why I will NEVER go back to this clinic. Ive given my share of injections and know how to properly give them. This girl seemed to have no idea what she was doing. She gave the first injection, hand shaking, holding the syringe very awkwardly (like shed never done it) and pointed in staight down into the guinea pig. I know guinea pigs can be dramatic but Ive never heard her scream like that. I cant be positive but I think she hit bone. I should have just left, but I needed this to be done and crossed my fingers the second guinea pig would be better. That wasnt the case. The second injection didnt even go in her skin all the way and the needle popped out and she lost some of the serum in the needle. She put the needle back in her (a dull needle) and my guinea pig cried bloody murder. Also, while I was trying to hold my second guinea pig, she put the syringe down on the table without the cover on the needle. This should never be done because the needle can pick up bacteria. I think this girl was new, but if that is the case then she needs someone watching her to make sure she does it right. Im outraged by the lack of experience they are hiring. I will never be back and I dont want anyone else to go through what I went through.

Ive been working with one particular species of rodent, the prairie dog, for over 17 years. Over this period of time, Ive interacted with numerous vets throughout the country and abroad about different aspects of the prairie dogs health in captive settings. During this time, Ive only encountered about five extraordinary veterinarians that truly stand above the rest when it comes to working with prairie dogs. Dr. Johnson-Delaney is truly a standout in the field of exotic medicine. Not only is she on the leading edge in continued research and education about many exotic species, but her quest for knowledge never ceases which puts her leaps above the rest. She is open, receptive, and respectful of what an owner experiences and expresses about their animal while offering expertise that cant be found in most practices. Youll learn a great deal about your animal, it will receive extraordinary care, all for a reasonable cost for what you receive. No office will be entirely perfect all the time as I saw in another review below, but out of hundreds of clinics that Ive worked with in my consulting, Id recommend them highly to anyone. They are also receptive to consulting with other veterinarians in other clinics to help animals in other locations. Im grateful to know that shes here and even more fortunate that shes in my own state! Shes provided exceptional care and expertise to my own pets and Im forever in her debt.

I work for a nonprofit that uses several different kinds of animals in programs for children, and Evergreen Avian and Exotics oversees the veterinary care for our reptiles and amphibians. We have worked with Dr. Carter and Dr. Boutette, and both are wonderful. Dr. Carter has dealt with a small wound on our snake, and Dr. Boutette oversaw a long-term infection in our of our salamanders. Recently, Dr. Boutette helped us through the process of diagnosing and assisting us with our wonderful kingsnake when she got very sick and we had to put her down. He was compassionate (to me and the snake), knowledgeable, and very helpful. I appreciated his candor as he explained the medical science of what was happening to her, but he was also so kind. Their prices are incredibly reasonable (especially appreciated working for a small nonprofit), and they are always available to consult over the phone (to the point of returning calls on their personal lines on days they arent scheduled to work). The other staff members are efficient and sweet. I wish companion animal hospitals would take a page out of their book - it is possible to be amazing, cutting edge veterinary professionals and not have it cost your first born child - and you get the care and kindness of a "small town" vet office.

This is the best exotic vet I have ever been to by far. The place is clean, professional and friendly. I was astonished at how low cost it was. I brought my prairie dog in, rather reluctantly after a not-so-good experience with a different vet in Tacoma. Unlike the other vet, this one obviously knew how to handle the animal and knew what she was talking about. Unfortunately his diagnosis was not good, but the situation was explained to me with compassion and also with directness and honesty, which I appreciated. I never felt rushed and all my questions were answered fully. During my second trip my car broke down, 100+ miles from home. The entire staff went out of their way to help me get back on the road, the sort of neighborly-ness rarely encountered these days. It was worth every penny in gas and car repairs to be confident my little guy got the best possible care. I would not hesitate to do it again.

Our second Mini-Holland Male Lop Rabbit, at 9-months needed to be neutered. Aerowood Vet Clinic in Eastgate no longer had a qualified vet that could treat small/exotic animals. We were referred to Avian & Exotic Animal Medical Center in Kirkland and had an appointment with Dr. Cathy Johnson-Delaney. She was not only knowledge about small animals-especially rabbits, but reassured us about this operation and aftercare. Dr. Johnson-Delaney genuinely cares for pets. Her staff is also knowledgeable and friendly toward pet parents. We wouldn’t take our rabbit anywhere else. I would recommend Avian & Exotic Animal Medical Center to those needing expertise of small pets.
