I must say after reading all these complaints from people it saddens me. I find that the medical center is great. Yes sometimes you do have to wait. Hours that were specified in another complaint are hours where they have a lot of emergencies. Car accidents and such. They go by priorities. If you have someone having a heart attack they get in first. Someone that is critical from a car smash up goes before you. I have sat there for hours myself. When I was taken care of I had great care. My husband was also in this hospital and we had no complaints. If they send you home with a shot for pain from a leg ache or something they always suggest a follow up dr. right in your paperwork. They also accept you without insurance. They also work with you if you are low income and make a payment arrangement for you. I will continue to go to the S.A.M.C. as I am quite happy with them. They are busy. Might not look like they are but if they are not calling right back there it means there is someone more important and life threatening then you. All my cancer treatments were done through there too. Not the E.R. but through the medical center. Sometimes you just have to be patient. If you have been having pains or being sick you should have gone to a Dr.s office. Why bring it to the E.R.? Emergency rooms are for emergencies. Not a pain shot or antibiotics for the flu. There are clinics for that. So before everyone comes down on the SAMC think about what you are going there for. Children with high fevers. That is important. They rushed my grandson back there with a high fever. Within 20 minutes his fever was on the way down. My son wrecked on his motorcycle. They had him back doing scans on him hooked up to stuff almost immediately. He was a bloody mess and serious injuries. I give the medical center a high 5 for the great job that they do. Nurses are also awesome. Doctors know what they are doing. I have seen people sitting there bleeding for a while but there was also a smash up accident where they were trying to save the lives of people that were in it. At that time they were more important. Shame people cant think of what all the E>R workers go through and still smile and try to help you. You get crappy with them I wouldnt blame them to get gnarly back. They are there to help people with serious injuries and health conditions. Remember that.

I was admitted to BHS at SAMC. They were severely understaffed. I never even spoke to a counselor about why I was there for the entire 3 days I was there, and as I understand it, thats not unusual. Medicate and ignore is their policy. They provide practically no stimulation. I took to walking up and down the hall for want of something to do other than color and watch TV. I also found it impossible to get a good nights sleep, as the orderlies would check on us every half hour to record how many hours we were sleeping by opening the doors roughly and then slamming them shut. So they basically take a bunch of so-called crazy people, put them on drugs, and let them get really crazy due to lack of sleep and lack of stimulation. The mandatory group meetings ranged from pointless to inappropriate: one of the group leaders chose to yell at all of us because of two people acting out, in the process sharing her downright wrong opinions about mental (un)health. Im 24 years old, and my doctor chose to tell me one thing and then call my mother and tell her something completely different. They also gave me grief about accommodating my ethical vegan diet choices, which is insane because I was literally asking for just fruits and vegetables and rice at every meal instead of the bacon, fried chicken, lasagna, etc., and various unhealthy desserts the other patients were getting.

My mother has been having chronic issues for about six months now. Everyone from her family doctor, orthopedic specialist, and now the ER personnel, floor nurses, and hospital staff have made her feel like she is crazy and that it is all in her mind. She had been accused of drug seeking behavior and even been framed for it by her CNA. Turns out she is very sick with septicemia. She also has an abscess growing on her hip bone. Now her floor nurses seem to be punishing her for actually being sick. They have ignored requests for help getting out of bed to use the rest room or get some ice water. Between my sister and myself, we have helped her do both and nurses caught us in the act and literally yelled at us. My sister swears because of us they make moms life even worse. I dont think its personal, I think they treat all patients equally rudely and with no respect. My mom had also been admitted 24 hours ago and repeatedly been told about various procedures she would have done. Up until 30 minutes ago, nothing had happened. They have wasted her time and money to teach her a lesson. The lesson I learned was never use any doctor she uses and always go to Flowers. Flowers had always been professional and polite and Ive never been yelled at by anyone there.

I was a patient for a Pacemaker battery replacement. I was admitted to the ER and then placed in ER observation for a night. The next day they did a Nuclear Stress test and determined I was ok except for the Pacemaker battery. We waited until almost 5 that night to get into a room and Surgery took place early the next morning. The Operating Staff who prepped me all the way to the doctor who performed the operation were top notch. The nursing staff during my one day of recovery before being sent home were also exceptional. Obviously the food for a heart patient is tasteless and pretty bad, but I expected that. I did not have insurance and they provided me with the paperwork necessary to apply for a lowered bill. All in all not a bad experience. What people need to realize when they are commenting on these reviews is that most hospitals run understaffed. Nurses have several patients through no fault of their own so you cannot expect them to see you in 5 minutes because your pillow needs fluffed. I for one was very satisfied with my stay. Thanks Larry

Brought spouse to ER at 8: pm. Took only about 30 min to be in a room. Took 2 1/2 hours for Dr. Then another hour for X-ray. Now at 2:30 am no results. Asked nurse why it was taking so long. She said she didnt know, it has been that way with long waiting times. I asked if it was busy she said no, but something is causing the long waiting times. Spouse went to X-ray and they forgot to hook her oxygen back up. Her alarm kept going off but no one came. The nurses or whoever were at the nurses station joking and laughing. I went to them and asked if they could hear the alarm going off. They acted surprised. I told them that the oxygen had not been hooked up. So one of them came and hooked it up. All the times we have been here in the past years it has never been like this. In the past we felt like the staff was concerned and did all they could to help us. We drive from Troy for what use to be excellent care. It is farther than Montgomery. But we will most likely head to Montgomery Baptist or Jackson hospital. Sure are a lot of people unhappy in here.
