Saved our dog! Our beagle-mix dog injured his back jumping off the bed, but the injury wasnt obvious because he seemed normal at the time. In the days following the jump off the bed, he started getting diarrhea, walking slowly--just being less active, even to the point of not eating to where his weight dropped from 35lbs to 30 lbs. We took him to one vet who did a some test, full blood work, then other tests, cause we were thinking; the problem was just that he had an upset stomach or internal infection. After a week of not finding out what was wrong with him, I called Northwood Animal Hospital and explained all this to them. The assistant listened to everything we explained, and said that she had one opening in just 30 min so we took our dog to them as we lived 15 min away. The technician listened then the doctor Gayle Roberts listened to everything that I explained, they requested all the previous tests from the other vet, and then Dr. Roberts studied the previous vets test notes for about 10 min, reading silently...she then asked about our comments in the other vets notes about our dog jumping off of the bed. She then did some reflex tests on his back feet and said that she thought he had a back injury. The injury was not easy to spot as our dog had been tested for injury by the other vet when we mentioned him jumping off the bed...Dr. Roberts prescribed an anti-inflammatory to reduce the swelling in his spine. About an hour and a half later after giving the medication, our dog was laying on the bed almost with a smile on his face...wagging his tail. A few hours later in the day, he came into the kitchen looking for food! He ate normally for the first time in about a week! He looked at me wagging his tail walking around the apartment almost as if he was telling me thank you....thank Dr. Roberts for helping return our dog back to his normal happy self! Seriously, a ton of gratitude, awesome job!

Our cat got really excellent care at Northwood. She saw several of the vets there, but particularly Dr. Pursley. They were always sweet with our kitty, forthright with us, and skillful at handling and treating her. She only had one health problem while we lived near Northwood, which was an allergy to the stitches the shelter used in spaying her (Northwood would have used non-allergenic stitches). Northwood diagnosed her allergy really quickly and helped us compare the risks and benefits of re-opening the wound to replace the stitches versus just seeing it through with antibiotics until she healed enough to take them out anyway (in the end we kept the stitches and she was healed enough to remove them in a couple of weeks). We always knew that the choice was ours but that they would help us in any way they could, which is exactly what you want from a healthcare provider! They also have a great annual wellness package including flea meds and checkups.

First the good, the offices were clean and the employees were friendly and courteous. I did have to wait a bit to be seen even though I scheduled an appointment in advance. I went to have my Gargoyle Gecko and Corn Snake checked up on. They weighed and felt the muscle mass of my animals. And suggested that I get some tests done on their feces. They were able to answer all the questions that I had on my animals (which was minimal as I do a lot of research online with any animal I care for.) Unfortunately, the advice the vet gave for the corn snake was very poor. She kept pushing calcium sand and said that there are no issues whatsoever using it. This just is not the case. There are issues with impaction (constipation that can cause death) caused by this type of substrate (bedding). If you have a reptile I would not recommend coming here. I can not vouch for how they take care of cats or dogs though.

Love this place! Great Customer service and Dr Gayle Roberts was awesome!!!! I was supposed to see Dr Pursley, but she was running behind with her previous procedure but they made sure my baby didnt have to wait any longer and they were on time and Dr Roberts took over. Great team work there! I recently relocate from Long Beach to Lake Forest and was in need of a vet and a co-worker and a patient of mine highly recommended this place. My doggy has had 3 prior vet and at each place, he would bark and hates it there....BUT at this place, he did not bark once at all. At one time the loud vacuum was turned on and scared my dog during the exam and right away, the vet Dr Gayle left the room and paused the noise. Little things like that makes me realized they care what our furry babies need. Very, super, glad I took my Kooper Blue there. Highly recommended! Thank you everyone! So much appreciation.

This is the first google review I have written, but didnt hesitate to write one for Northwood Hospital. I got such incredible service here, I never have known an animal hospital to be so caring, up to date, accommodating and affordable. I took my pet tortoise there for the first time. They gave me 1/2 off the price of the first visit. I was really tight on time, but was eager to have her seen. They allowed me to drop her off to be evaluated. Afterwards they answered all my questions, made sure I went with written instructions and the doctor called me the next morning to make sure we connected and had all my questions answered. I honestly only want to go to them now, even though I live a good 45 minutes away.

I use Northwood Animal Hospital for all my pets and consider them family! They provide high quality care and are conscious of the costs to me - often telling me when a special is taking place or if there are coupons available. With a houseful of pets this is very helpful! Most importantly they treat my pet family members the same as their own pets and go out of their way to make sure they are healthy and happy. They also take steps to provide a sense of community among their clients with special pet included events like cookouts and taking part in philanthropic community events. I don hesitate to refer anyone who asks!

Every time we bring our dog, Kona, into Northwood Animal Hospital, we are greeted in a friendly manner and our dog is also greeted enthusiastically. Our dog does not like going to the Vet and he is shaking and nervous. When they come to get him, he is taken very gently, talked to quietly, and truly loved. Seriously, I believe that the entire staff just loves our dog! One time when we were out of town, there was a minor emergency with Konas teeth. They called us and everything was handled very smoothly. I highly recommend the doctors and staff at Northwood Animal Hospital.

Dr. Pursley is a bunny doctor, and that is what originally brought us into northwood. Weve stayed for years because of the great staff. Dr. P. is our go to vet for all of our animals, when we walk in they make us feel like family and let us know they care about our pets. We lost our cat a little while back and received a card from the whole staff with well wishes and love. All of the doctors and vet techs are very knowledgeable, weve had some weird cases come in with us and they have always handled it very quickly and professionally. I highly recommend Northwood Animal Hospital.
