Dr. Suvarna Bhat and the staff at this center are unprofessional and incompetent. In 2012, Given my pertinent family history of Hashimotos, thyroid cancer, and clinical presentation, Dr. Bhat did not order a complete thyroid panel. She did, however, run many tests for very rare autoimmune diseases for which I have no family medical history. Now, after some experience in the medical field, pre-med and biology education, working in a hospital (my mother is also a doctor) I realize how incompetent this medical professional is. She dismissed many of my claims and clinical presentations, yet still referred me to an endocrinologist and stated I had an enlarged thyroid with nodules that she could easily feel with palpation. When I went to the endocrinologist, she stated that Dr. Bhat was wrong, and that I, in fact, did not have a thyroid that could be termed "enlarged" by palpation. The Endo stated that I just had a long, thin neck, anatomically. My nodules were sub-centimeter and therefore, it is also unlikely she could have felt them. I have since made an appointment this past Feb. to be seen in May. She rescheduled me THREE TIMES since then. Twice, because she was "sick", and once due to "scheduling error". Now the earliest I can get in is end of August. That is a full 7 months from the initial date I called in. If I want to switch PCPs, which, by the way, she has to "approve" ( I doubt she will), I wont be seen until November 28th. The staff on the phone was discourteous, had an attitude, was not clear or thorough in her speaking, and was rude when I tried to clarify. She did not acknowledge my frustrations, or make any attempt to right the situation. I am extremely displeased with this center and will be taking my business elsewhere. If I do come back positive for Hashimotos disease, I will most likely have been living with this condition for a long time. Dr. Bhat will have therefore diminished my quality of life and health for YEARS. DO NOT GO HERE. update: Oh my god. So, after my mom encourages me to seek a patient advocate regarding all the incompetence at U of M Canton Health Center, I call and the lady is super nice until I say the words "patient advocate". Then her tone immediately switches and she starts asking about "what I need to complain about". I told her I didnt call to complain but to seek resolution on being rescheduled 3x and having to wait (NOW) a total of 10 months from my original call date to see a PCP. I didnt mention the part about how she didnt run appropriate thyroid testing during prior visits, or how the previous receptionist said that my current PCP Dr. Suvarna Bhat needed to "approve my transfer" to another PCP at the facility. ( I am pretty sure I have the right to choose my own PCP, especially after malpractice inflicted by Dr. Bhat, see "patient abandonment") Long story short she put me on a dead silent hold for an hour which pretty much means she was just hoping Id hang up and go away, lol, WHICH I DID. I am done trying to work with this place. If I could give them 0 stars I would.

My sons dad and I went to take our 2 day old newborn here. As usual it was our first time here so we had a hard time finding the place but we finally did and we were about 5 minutes late I apologized to the receptionist she then said to me I hear that excuse all the time. So I checked in and sat down they called us in to see the doctor the one I wanted to see was on vacation so I saw someone else. When she came in she said he was very healthy but because I was a young mom she suggested we take a parenting class ( another thing the tax payers pay for) I said no my mom is a nurse with 5 kids If we are going to learn how to be parents it is going to be from her. She got an attitude and said to us well I am going to have one of our social workers call you in a couple of days. I did not say anything after that but I wish I did. When it was time to check out someone was in front of us the lady at the counter in a very rude tone said I will be with you guys in a minute 15 minutes later my son started getting fussy so I said 5 more minutes and we are leaving 5 minutes passed and we got up and left. A week later sure enough the social worker called me asking me every question you can think of acting like she had a right to know and asked if I was sure I did not want to take a parenting class. I gave the phone to my mom and she told her off My son is 1 year old now and is happy and healthy as can be. I will never go to U of M ever again. I would not even take a dog here

The doctors are great - everything else about this place is crap. If you need to talk to your doctor (they will get a message to him/her but you will never actually speak to them), make an appointment (hope you planned ahead), get a refill (God forbid if you forgot to ask for a refill on your last visit) etc... you will be on hold a VERY long time. To aid your needs, you will also speak with a nasty/snide receptionist who forgets its his/her job to help you. It should also be noted that if you THINK you need an appointment, the receptionist will convince you otherwise and either a) make you wait on hold again to speak with a nurse or b) leave a message for the nurse to call you back, which may/may not be received that same day. If you need an immediate appointment, dont count on it - just head to urgent care. I also have to admit I have had my share of nurses who behave like robots. There is nothing nurse-like about them aside from the tasks they are required to perform. Another customer service fail. It is beyond frustrating to deal with this nonsense each and every time my family and I have a medical need. As I stated earlier, the doctors ARE great, everything else is such a huge disappointment. I really wish someone would take complaints seriously and give this place an overhaul.

Pretty surprising for University of Michigan I use to know. I have been attending this location my entire life. Twenty one years of my life. From the time I was a kid it was excellent clean, fast and efficient. As soon as I just recently started going here (2014-now) it has become apporid to say the least. For the past two years I have had a really hard time breathing. Not like breathing is serious or anything... I have went three times to see the same doctor about the issue. First scheduling an appointment is often impossible, then when you arrive it takes hour/s to be seen. Now I cannot speak for all doctors but the one I see is unbelievable! After waiting over an hour in the waiting area I am placed in a examination/check up room then it takes another thirty plus minutes to even see my doctor. On three occasions about the same issue he comes in talks to me for less than ten minutes after I waited forever to see him, blows off my questions and sends me away with a prescription of Claritin. Guess what the Claritin didnt work so here I go again back to this miserable place in hopes to breath again... I hope I dont quit breathing for the hour plus Im waiting in the waiting room because I still most likely wont see anyone to help me.
