I had decided to change veterinarians and went into Dr. Bestic’s office in early December 2014 to give them all the information on my dog and cat; this way, if I needed to bring one of them in for a checkup or if an emergency came up, we would be in their system. The desk staff took all of my information and confirmed that we were indeed now in their system and were good to go. On April 5, 2015, I called Dr. Bestic’s office because my dog Murphy was dreadfully ill. The emergency service answered; I told them the issue—that my dog was very, very sick and that I had been in back in December to give them all my information, etc. This woman refused to put me through to the doctor; she kept telling me we weren’t actually a client. She finally got Dr. Bestic on the line. He spoke very briefly; confirmed that my dog was very sick and told me to take him elsewhere. I did. I took him to Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital. It was really too late. Murphy died, shortly before midnight. I am not claiming that Dr. Bestic could have saved him. I merely want others to know what kind of place this is. I thought I did everything right; I went in before I knew I would need their services to confirm that we could actually be taken on as a new client, knowing that Dr. Bestic only offers emergency services to true clients and, b/c my dog was old and large, I knew he might have issues one day. His staff told me we were in their system. Yet, when I needed them, I wasted time—with my dog literally dying on the floor next to me—fighting with them on the phone. Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital said they would forward a record of what they tried to do w/Murphy to Dr. Bestic’s office. No one from Dr. Bestic’s office ever called to say they were sorry about Murphy, probably because he wasn’t actually a client of theirs. I will not be shocked if this review is deleted by Dr. Bestic’s office. I understand, from other pet owners who have had their own awful experiences with Dr. Bestic, that his staff has removed other poor reviews (how, I do not know; that seems to defeat the purpose of these feedback sites). I also understand they are quite good at spinning things their own way, so they don’t look as incompetent and heartless. My only hope is that some people get to read this and realize that there is more to being a kind, considerate veterinarian’s office than a fancy building.

On April 15 my beloved dog had surgery at our regular veterinarian to remove a small tumor (marble size) on her hind leg. We were not given any indication that it looked "bad" before or after the surgery. A week passed and we went in because the incision was infected, and we found out that the biopsy reported Stage II Mast Cell Cancer, highly aggressive. We panicked, and were referred to an veterinary oncologist. We are very connected in the dog-world, and a friend referred me to Dr. Bestic instead, as he had treated her mastiffs for the same thing multiple times. I called VCH the very next morning at 7:30 a.m., and I was in their office by 10:30 a.m. They had transferred all of my dogs records, and Dr. Bestic was on the phone with an oncologist for a consult on the biopsy as well. We came up with a plan to go in to remove more of her muscle, and potentially amputate her leg if it had spread further. We were so lucky that Dr. Bestic was able to remove all of the cancer infected area, and we got a clean biopsy report in the week following! The staff at VCH are kind and friendly. They love our dog (she is pretty adorable), but they treated us as if we were a patient for years before. They have definitely gained our long term business. Dr. Bestic is a wonderful vet and he was very kind and sympathetic to the situation. His confidence and plan for treatment gave us relief when we were nothing but panicked. We met Dr. Shaker when it was time for stitches to come out, and she is also an absolutely wonderful veterinarian. She is very kind and caring! Our Nattie girl is healing up really well! The incision and technique Dr. Bestic used to clear her of cancer and stitch her up with a drain were top notch. Shes feeling SO much better, and we are ever so grateful for VCH!

I will NEVER use this place again. They are out to get your money and resort to sleazy business practices. I boarded my dog there a few weeks ago and when I picked him up they handed me a HUGE bill. I knew beforehand that my dog would need one additional vaccination for influenza (which my regular vet does not deem necessary)but this place had given him several unnecessary vaccinations and tests . I had provided his vaccination records, but they thought the dates were "wrong" and never even bothered to check with my regular vet who is right across the street! Nor did they bother to call me before giving these extra shots! Granted, when my husband dropped off the dog, he had unknowingly (stupidly?)checked off on all kinds of things they said my dog needed. I refused to pay for all these extra charges and stormed out. THEN, the owner had the nerve to personally call me and make excuses for their mistakes and badger me to pay the charges, including additional medication for whip worms! I asked for the lab report to be faxed to my regular vet, but they refused. My regular vet re tested (twice)and all reports were NEGATIVE . My dog did not have worms, yet this place was trying to put my dog on special medication and charge me even more!!! I thought it was weird a few years ago when this business set up shop directly across the street from a reputable vet who has been in practice for many years. But I decided to try their boarding facilities. I WILL NEVER GO BACK AND I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!

As a registered nurse I take care of my patients as if they were family. Dr Bestic obviously takes care of his patients the same way-as if they were part of his family. My dog, "bad-dog Phoebe", has been taken care of by Dr. Bestic since she was a puppy. I cant imagine taking her anywhere else! Phoebe receives compassionate, loving care at every visit from not only Dr. Bestic but from his reception staff as well. This level of care is seen at all times with VCH, through health as well as sickness. Our first encounter with VCH was with our dog, Lemonade. She was ill when Dr. Bestic took over her care and unfortunately after several treatment modalities and six weeks of care, we made the difficult decision to put Lemonade to sleep. The level of compassion from all of the VCH staff was exceptional during this difficult time. However, because of this compassion, our family was able to put Lemonade to sleep knowing that she had been well cared for and that the medical treatment she received was the best available. I cant say enough nice things about Dr. Bestic and VCH. And in a nutshell, I wouldnt trust my dog to anyone else.

I am very impressed with this clinic. Im from out of town and was visiting my sister when my yellow lab got sick on a Sunday morning. It was only a bladder infection but she and I had a 13 hour car ride the next day and I didnt want either of us to deal with the consequences of that! Dr. Dan and his wife were there within ten minutes of my call. The facilities are spacious and clean. The bill was very reasonably priced, especially considering it was a Sunday. He explained everything that was going on, answering all of my questions; he even let me look at the blood sample under the microscope and pointed out the bacteria milling about. To top it off both Dr. Dan and his wife, (a PhD in pharmacology, I believe, whose name Ive forgotten, sorry!) were both professional and friendly. If I lived in the area I would definitely be changing vets. Since I dont, however, the most I can do is share the great experience I had and recommend The Veterinary Center of Hudson to any in the area looking for a vet. Thanks, Drs. Bestic!
