I STRONGLY recommend Haywood Rd Animal Hospital. My ACD mix, Belle, has been extremely itchy and we couldnt figure out what was going on. I had been taking her to Banfield (never the same Vet), but was growing suspicious when they gave me a list of things they wanted to test for (things that Ive seen in my vet clinic/humane society working experience that I KNOW Belle does NOT have!) at $75+ per test. The Vet didnt go into detail on ANYTHING! So I began looking for a new Vet. I had an interview at Haywood Rd back in September, and loved what I saw. I made an appointment and took poor Belle in on Tuesday of last week. Dr. Simpson was very sweet with both myself and Belle, whom she kept expressing was a total doll. She IMMEDIATELY narrowed down to two possibilities and described (in DETAIL) why she suspected these. She wanted to do a couple of skin tests ($23/test), which came back negative for mites and positive for bacteria and small amounts of yeast from an over-production of oil. FINALLY WE HAD RESULTS!!!! She then went into detail of how she wanted to tackle the treatment of Belles bacterial infection and over-productive oil glands, which was to take it one step at a time to figure out what works and what doesnt. Here it is, a week later, and Im already seeing a HUGE improvement in Belles skin (less oily and almost NO itching!). So, after almost two years of scratching my head over different allergy meds, shampoos, and foods (grain-free, chicken-free, beef-free, gluten-free, limited ingredients, yadda, yadda, yadda), Ive finally found a Vet who is more concerned about her clients than her paycheck!

Let me start out by saying that I have been bringing my dog to this vet for over a year with no issue. The last time we had to go in was early August for my dogs paw. She has a strange place between the webbing that was causing her to limp and lick. I was concerned that maybe she had something lodged in there or had some sort of infection. They assured me it was probably brought on by allergies and that it was likely a yeast flare up. They came to this conclusion without doing a skin test and gave me absolutely no suggestions on how to treat allergies. Gave her a steroid shot and sent us home with cleaning wipes ($150.00).Today 9/11/16, we are currently looking at having to have surgery on her paw to have the place removed and biopsied. After a skin test, no yeast was present, just bacteria. Im unhappy with the lack of attention they gave to my dogs issue. Had they given it more thought and attention, maybe it could have been treated sooner and we wouldnt be looking at surgery. I have no doubt that when it comes to vet dentistry, Dr. Creel knows what he is doing. However, when it comes to other issues, he needs to brush up on treatment because my dog was not properly assessed or diagnosed. If you care about your animals, take them to Cleveland Park Animal Hospital. They have walk - in appointments after 2:30. Kelsie Jones

Dr. Matera and the other girl there on staff (I wish I could remember her name!) who treated my kitten were wonderful! I just got my kitten from the shelter 6 days ago and I was a little nervous about how she would react to strangers since I have only had the chance to introduce her to two new people so far (one of whom she was frightened of and had a negative reaction to). I could tell the staff there loved and cared for her as if she were their own and my kitten warmed right up to them and loved them! They were also helpful in explaining to me the possible causes of the bad cough my kitten was having and gave her an antibiotic. I am relieved that the visit went so well and that my worries were calmed that nothing serious was wrong with her. Im also glad I got something for her cough so it doesnt turn into anything more serious. Thank you!

My fiancé and I were staying at a local hotel near the vet. We had just lost our beloved 13 year old basset hound, and our recently rescued little beagle injured his mouth so bad (probably a bone - my bad) that he couldnt even open his mouth. We were already rattled from our old buddys passing. Now we were in panic mode. We called Haywood and they took him in that afternoon. Dr. Creel and his staff took our little buddy overnight and had him ready to eat again the next day. I very much appreciate the treatment we got there. We live too far away now to keep Haywood as our regular vet, but rest assured that we would if we could. Thanks again, Doc Creel and staff. Weve been walking on pins and needles the last couple years with our dogs injuries, deaths, etc... Yall made us feel secure again. (Can you tell?...I loooove my mutts...)

I have driven from Sumter, SC to Haywood Road Animal hospital numerous times due to my German Shorthaired Pointers broken K9. Dr. Creel gave my dog amazing care and fixed his tooth not only once, but treated me more than fairly when his tooth needed care a second time. The staff on hand knows my dog from others and gives him individual care and exceptional specific treatment. My only complaint is when the vet crosses the line from professional to friendly; he treated me like an adult child and wanted a hug!?! I dont mind this but was caught off guard and unsure of how to respond. Either way, I will continue to take the animals that I love and care for there, because the staff truely do love and care for my animals, as if they were there own.

I had higher expectations for this business but was very let down. They have very poor scheduling and for some reason, stay open without a veterinarian working (which doesnt make sense to me considering its technically an "animal hospital"). I was turned away because the girl remarked that I never made an appointment (even though I did and had exact pricing and scheduled appointment time to confirm). Unprofessional for those who work an 8-5 type of job because most people have to rearrange their schedules in order to make appointments work during the work day. Still havent been able to find a place to give my dog a vaccine without it becoming a hassle.

What vet has NO DOORS on their exam rooms?!!! So dogs could come in from the front and scare my cat or my cat could run into the staff/lab area and get out! I took my cat and we were put in one of those door-less rooms! My cat was scared and, of course ran out, got through the back area, through another room into the outer area. If someone had been coming through the front door, he could have bolted out that door and been gone for good! In my view, this is nothing short of irresponsible and I will never go back again and dont recommend that anyone with cats go!!

After seeing the negative reviews below I feel compelled to provide my two cents. This place is great and Dr. Creel is wonderful... very engaging, attentive, and knowledgeable. Hes a fun and funny guy to be around with lots of humor and sarcasm. He and the other staff know their stuff and have always taken the time to answer my questions and satisfy my desire to understand the biology behind an issue or diagnosis. When my dog was put under to have a root canal done, they welcomed my frequent calls to check in on her.
