Ever since Dr. McGillic left, this vet has gone from incredible to awful. I had to change my review and make this known to other viewers, but to each their own. I took my dog here on Monday. I have a 100 lb. Pitbull, that is sweet as can be but full of energy. The minute I walked in, the lack of respect I got was unreal. There was a cat in a carrier and the staff said "oh you may want to move your cat around the corner so the Pitbull doesnt attack it." Ive been coming here for 10+ years, lost 2 dogs with this vet (by the way, never let them suggest their sister company. I allowed them to, and due to their sister companies neglect. My 1.5 year, yes that’s right 1.5 year old Boxer died in 2014.) this comment just absolutely blew me away. My dog has never attacked another human or animal. So their staff just assumes because hes a Pitbull he will attack. I stood there waiting for one of the staff members to stop talking and gossiping with each other and actually notice me and help me. My dog was getting a little excited with everyone around, so I decided to step outside for a few. When I walked back in, they werent helping anyone but I still went unnoticed. I finally went up to the room and said. Can we please get a room so he can calm down. She was snooty about it and got us back in a room. I waited for 30 min for someone to come in. I called after 15 min and asked what the holdup was, only to be put on hold for over 5 minutes and I gave up and hung up. I had to work at 8 and was told it would be a quick in and out with a couple questions. I was fine being late to work, however waiting for 30 minutes to even be seen is unacceptable. The vet tech that came in. Wouldnt even give my dog attention. He was trying to get her attention and she acted as if she was scared or couldnt handle his energy. Im sorry, but dont be a vet tech if you can’t handle all dogs and temperaments. I went and talked with the manager, who in the past has always treated us fantastic but was just as disgusted with her behavior. I told her how awful her staff treated me and my dog. Her response was well theyve been here for a couple years. Okay??! Since experience makes you NEVER have bad customer service, and its acceptable? She also said "we pulled a lot of strings to get you in for a drop off this morning." Really? I originally had an appointment scheduled for Friday the 7th. I called Thursday and canceled as we had to leave out of town unexpectedly on Friday. I asked if I could do a drop off or if its something we need to be there for. She stated the best is to be with our dog but people have done drop offs and the vet will contact with questions. Sure didnt seem like a lot of strings were pulled. There was no tension on the phone call and I was happy to bring him in another day if we had to be there. I ended up having them bring my dog out and I took him home. I will not stand for this kind of treatment. The excuses are unreal, the treatment I got was disgusting. I can overlook some things, but this was the worst experience Ive had with them. I am looking into a new vet. They will have to do some serious making up to me if they ever want to earn my business back.

If you really care about your pet, take them elsewhere. We had just gotten a new puppy and wanted to get her some shots, a spay, and a microchip. We have taken our other dogs to the Spay & Neuter clinic for years and had never had an issue. We needed to get into a vet faster than what the Spay & Neuter clinic could do for us which is the only reason we went to Healing Hearts since we needed to get out dog checked for worms. When my wife first called to make the appointment, the girl on the phone seemed nice, and welcoming. She seemed to know her stuff and took the appointment. When I arrived, they offered me the "puppy package" which seemed to be a great deal, offering shots, spay, neuter, and a microchip for a reasonable price. I was handed a sheet explaining all of the perks of the package when the vet came in and took my dog to the back room to get her a shot for her worms. I texted my wife to compare the puppy package price to the prices of the Spay & Neuter clinic and it seemed that the Spay & Neuter clinic was actually about half the price for the same procedures. Within a few short minutes, they had my dog back to me, and she had already had her shots administered, leaving me no option but to purchase the puppy package. I left frustrated that I didnt have time to process the whole idea of the puppy package, and I never consented to anything except the shots for worms. The puppy package includes several appointments where the shots are administered in installments, leaving the spay or neuter, along with the microchip for the last appointment. We were told that we needed to have the next appointment within 3 weeks. When we called to make the next appointment, the girl on the phone was unable to make the appointment without us knowing her exact age. It took 3 calls to finally make an appointment. After the appointment with the vet, I was sitting waiting to be checked out for 10-15 minutes, without any dialogue from the front desk, I was not sure if they were helping me, or what. Eventually the girls behind the desk started to check me out, confirming my name, and the dogs name. One of the girls asked if I wanted a receipt for services rendered that day. I said yes, and left with a receipt. It wasnt until later that I realized that the receipt had incorrect information. It had the dogs correct name, but incorrect everything else. I couldnt even understand what the itemizations were since I am not a vet, but for all I know they didnt even do what they were supposed to. Did they give her the right shots? It had her as a 10 pound dog, different breed than she actually was. I have no idea how, or why I got the wrong paper, but I am so not comfortable taking my dog there anymore. The first time was unpleasant, and we only went the second time since I had already paid for it, but I will not be going ever again. They are unprofessional, and very unorganized.

After the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan, I rushed home to Salt Lake City with my gimpy cat, Norah, in tow. I had been dealing with the vets in Japan enough to know that she has hip dysplasia but even with an interpreter I couldnt get much help with her there. I had to return to Japan, but left my cat with a friend who took her to see Dr. Huston on my behalf. The office staff and the doc were very accommodating with communication over email and the Dr. Huston herself made time to speak with me over the phone at length about Norahs hips. She and the staff went as far as to look into surgeons/specialists who could do a hip replacement (my cat had no hips anymore at this point) in Utah and were very good about keeping me posted on what they found out. About 6 months later I came back to Utah for good with a second kitty. I brought both of my cats in for shots and follow up on the hip situation. I got to see firsthand how natural and patient Dr. Huston was with my cats and how well they reacted to her. Norah is a very shy cat who used to hide her face under my shirt at the vet in Japan, but was very cooperative with Dr. Huston. She surprised me my telling me that Norahs condition made her curious and that she had started reaching out and learning as much as she could from specialists on the subject. Knowing that she cares and loves her job that much, and seeing her with my cats, was an experience Ill always hold other animal hospitals and vets to. In the end I have not moved forward with hip replacement for my cat- but I bought some glucosamine at her suggestion and feed my cat in a way that keeps her at the weight her hips can handle. Norah has been improving so much and even chases the other kitty around- pretty amazing for a cat with no hips and arthritis in what she has left of them! The cost for vaccination, x-ray, visit, a month supply glucosamine supplement, and kitty painkiller (very rarely used and still plenty left) was around $200, and that really is reasonable. The staff at the desk were very kind, too. There is a vet half a block away from my house, and I still hop on I-15 to take my cats to Healing Hearts.
