This one star is for their maternity ward. I could go on and on about the traumatic stay in the maternity ward, but the bottom line is this: The delivery team was amazing, my OB was awesome, and the specialist who took on my son at this hospital was unbelievably gifted! BUT the maternity ward experience was a nightmare. One nurse told me that if another mother bled on the toilet seat, (shared bathroom in the shared room), that I would be responsible for wiping up her blood. In her words, "Just get a wipe from the container and wipe it up." Sorry, not going anywhere near another persons blood, gross. I didnt think I heard her correctly, but my husband confirmed with her what she said and it is definitely what she said. The same nurse (she has blonde hair and was pregnant at the time 8/2013) would not bring me a breast pump after three days of begging her for one causing my boobs to swell and get extremely painful. Her excuse was that she was busy. Not once would the nurses watch my newborn so I could get 30 minutes of sleep. I arrived at the hospital on a monday, and didnt get sleep until the Friday I was released. Every fifteen minutes a different person would come into my room, (nurse, lactation consultant, phlebotomist, etc...) and berate me. At one point I woke up to a phlebotomist at my bedside and when I asked what he was doing, all he said was, "I have orders to draw your blood." I was treated like garbage when I told them my breasts were engorged and no milk was coming out. They kept saying I wasnt trying hard enough to breastfeed and didnt believe me when I said NOTHING was coming out. I asked for formula and they scolded me for asking (my request for formula even prompted them to get a doctor to ask me if I felt depressed; what?!), saying again that I wasnt trying hard enough to feed my son. (He was on me every 15 minutes). I expressed concerns that he was lethargic and wasnt eating, but again, they blamed it on me not trying hard enough to breastfeed. ***********************WELL, had the nurses been observant, they might have noticed his symptoms were caused by a congenital disorder***************** (Mommas, use your instinct!) Another huge issue I had was their discrimination towards the fathers at this facility. My husband was kicked out at 8pm pronto every night I was there (even on nights no one else was in my room). Parenting is a 50/50 thing and its extremely sexist to only allow the mother (not the father) to stay the night with their baby. One last thing I wanted to note; upon checkout, I was told that I had to walk to my car and that they would not provide any further assistance. I asked for help but the staff ignored my requests (plural) as they laughed and giggled at their nurses station. ( after 21 hours of labor, losing more than the normal amount of blood during childbirth, having stitches down there, and peeing blood from the catheter, the last thing I felt like doing was walking to the car without help from trained medical professionals). They also dont have newborn photographers or offer handprints/footprints. (Real Shi//y) Please, please, for the love of all things holy in this world, USE ANOTHER HOSPITAL FOR GIVING BIRTH!!!!! I do not want another woman to go through what I did!

I am a nurse and my husband has been in the service for 15 years and this is one of the least organized, least helpful hospitals weve been seen at. At my husbands inprocessing his Commander even made the suggestion to all his soldiers that they switch to Tricare standard just to avoid being seen here. (Which is fine but Madigan has the right to make you be seen at their hospital, and pay co-pays to THEM, for any and all specialty care *ob*gyn*peds*ultrasounds*etc) For us its really not worth paying out co-pays for primary care only. The care itself isn’t terrible. Its about average for military care. The issue is how under staffed, uneducated, rude, and flat out uncaring the people are there. If they dont know the answer, get ready to play the hoop jumping game. Theyll send you every place on earth before actually taking the time to find the right answer. They are so under staffed that I couldnt get seen for my first OG/GYN visit until I was over 13 weeks despite being high risk and being told by their own doctors to be seen 5 weeks sooner that. At my labor and delivery walk through I was informed that there would be patients sharing rooms (not uncommon) but depending on the amount of people, they were allowed to squeeze up to 4 people per room. (For the size of the rooms this is completely unacceptable and even goes against written hospital policy) My son wasnt able to be seen for his 12 month well child check until he was 15 months. Appointments are lost or are made 3 or more weeks out. If you request something sooner for whatever reason, they point their fingers in the direction of the ER. And going to the ER for sore throats or ear infections puts you at the end of the priority list, making your visit at least 6 hours. Who wants to wait 3 weeks for an ear infection appointment?! And one of the most irritating things is that when whoever is working the desk speaks to you, they often dont lift their face or eyes to acknowledge you. Its a series or short, irritated grunts and/or answers. As a nurse I am flat out appalled by the continuity of care at this hospital. Just because youre a military hospital doesnt mean you are allowed to be subpar. The ONLY reason I am even giving this hospital 2 stars is because once youre actually lucky enough to be seen, the care is alright. It’s really no worse or better than any other military hospital.

By far, the worst hospital Ive ever stepped foot in. Ive been here a few times, and every single time Ive had a bad experience. The first time I was here, June 7, 2016, I was rushed to the ER because I broke my tibia and fibula on a jump. The staff made me hobble/hop myself into the wheelchair. Then I sat around for hours giving the same answer "hit the ground, felt pain, felt foot hanging loose in my boot, took boot off to examine, leg was the size of a watermelon" to various different doctors and nurses. After that, they told me my ankle was just sprained and Ill be fine, without doing xrays or feeling my leg. It wasnt until the medic that came with me had to fight with them until I could get xrays. Two hours later they come back and sheepishly tell me the diagnosis. After that, they told me they wont do surgery for a week. They gave me enough painkillers to last for 3 days, and told me to come to the ER to get more. When I did that, it took 5 hours of sitting in the ER to even talk to one doctor, who accused me of being addicted. 8 hours later I finally got more painkillers. Came back a week after the accident, I was told to come back three days later for surgery. When I finally got surgery, they wouldnt give me any medication for the pain, told me to wait until I left. Kicked me out not even 24 hours after having surgery. Fast forward a few months, the pain where some parts of the hardware was, was not going away at all. A year after having the first surgery, I had to get another one to remove some of the hardware that was placed improperly. They made me leave as soon as I woke up from the anesthesia. Now today I had to drive a buddy to the ER, as he was gushing blood from his finger (his white bathroom sink/floor looked like someone spray painted it red) 4 hours later the doctors have only called back two people, but I can hear staff in the back talking and joking around. All I can really say about this hospital is that they dont care how bad you are hurt, if you cut into their free time, theyll make you wait and suffer. It doesnt matter if their is one other person, or 100. They get paid by the hour, nor the quality of their work. So theyll make you wait.
