Its tough to review. My 3-star review is an average of the service and all other things considered, mainly the billing. I would do 3.5 if itd let me. I had surgery there, plus Ive also seen several other doctors in their Medical Office Buildings that are all part of the Baptist system. If were talking strictly about how things went with my PACE appointment and actual day of surgery, I would definitely say at least 4.5 stars. Things went very smoothly, and I got to go home sooner than expected. There were some minor things I didnt like day-of (the long wait to be called back to start my pre-surgery process, the indifferent nurse I had in pre-surgery, finding out there were a few things I hadnt been told, etc.). But overall, it was a better-than-expected experience. I didnt get any hospital-borne illnesses, etc. etc. so Im very, very happy on that regard. From all the staff I dealt with, there really were only two I can think of who were unpleasant. One was just a phlebotomist, so really, meh not a big deal. And the other was the aforementioned nurse in pre-surgery, which is definitely a way bigger deal. But, no matter where you go in life, there are always going to be a few bad apples! Id say 85% of staff was GREAT. The hospital itself is gorgeous and very new-looking. Clean. Modern. Plenty of parking. Its a very impressive campus, and it made me feel all the things they want you to feel based on design itself. On looks alone, this beats other local hospitals by a long shot. The Baptist system tries to be really tech-forward, but its still got some work to be done. (Like...they push this patient portal you can sign up for to see your results, but its hit or miss. Tons of irrelevant docs get posted, so its messy and confusing. Not all doctors use it. Even the ones who do, take forever to respond to the messages they encourage you to send through the system.) There are some things to be desired, plus my biggest complaint is that its not all linked. You can see 20 Baptist doctors, but every single time, you have to start from scratch with your personal info and copies of your drivers license and insurance card. Shouldnt it all be one system? If I could review billing separately, now that would be barely 2 stars (at best). Its extremely slow, very disorganized, and you feel like youre doing something wrong simply by wanting to actually pay your bill. It has been wayyy over 2 months since my surgery, and I STILL have not received my invoice, even though the insurance company processed this claim very quickly after the surgery. From other Baptist visits, Ive had 1) Bills sent to me that they forgot to send to insurance, so I had to disregard the bill and wait for the whole process to happen, 2) My account balance go up, but no statement generated to go with the new balance, 3) Payments Ive sent via mail not get processed on their end, and had to literally argue that Ive sent them something, in order to convince them to look (and they did find it sitting somewhere), and 4) Had to bounce around between seriously 3 different billing people just to answer my question about what a procedure will cost me, if I choose to do it, based on the insurance coverage I have (and still cant really get a clear answer). I’m at the point where I will avoid getting involved with Baptist doctors when I can help it, just to not have to deal with the billing aspect!! Its too much. But, if I had to do my surgery all over again, yes, I would still make the choice to go there for that.

Had a great experience this hospital with the ICU team dr. Gill dr. Fernandez dr. Snowden dr. Kumar dr. Vijy and the nursing staff in the ICU unit are excellent however I would have given five stars but the experience I had this morning at 2 a.m. regarding my wife and her care the nursing staff was busy with another patient she sent her nurse alarm no one responded so I went out into the hallway to find someone the first person I see is who I think is a nurse sitting at a desk between two patient rooms and I said excuse me I need some assistance my wife is in her room and needs help can you help me find a nurse can you help me or can you find her nurse for me the lady turns to me an stated sorry Im too busy shes not my patient cant you see Im talking on the phone you need to go down a corner to the nurses station and find someone there I dont have time for so I storm off and say thanks for nothing the few heated words eventually after 30 minutes a nurse comes in to help me assist my wife to get back into bed to clean her and I find out that the person I talked to you was not a nurse what was dr. Melissa Cortes as a medical professional doctor I would expect a little more bedside Manner and how to handle family situations let alone patients who are under the care of Baptist Medical Hospital South which happens to be what is on your name badge and your uniform that you wear representing the hospital I will also be forwarding a letter and speaking with dr. Gill who happens to be one of the Chiefs of Staff at that hospital I am not pleased with the professionalism that dr. Melissa Cortez displayed this evening regardless of any situation or emergency she had at 2 a.m. on the phone with whoever it was she was communicating with she could have least taking the time to stop and address at concerned husbands welfare for her patient in that hospital not saying that my wife is the only patient in the hospital but I would hate to see her bedside manner towards any other patients or the way she would handle her nursing staff a little more professionalism and courtesy goes a long way

I went to the hospital (Baptist Medical Center South) in unbearable pain, and after spending my entire day there, the doctor told me he was sending me home with no medication because he wants me to go to a pain management physician. (Which is fine, but I still need something in the meantime because I most likely cant get into pain management for another month) He told me to take Tylenol. TYLENOL. After he just had to give me 2 percocets to stop the pain, and even then I was still in some pain. Tylenol isnt going to touch this pain. So we had to practically beg the nurse to have the doctor give me some kind of pain medication. So the doctor ended up writing me a prescription for Tramadol and I was happy with this. But I always research medication before taking it so I checked to make sure that its safe to take Tramadol with Lexapro. It is NOT safe. It can cause me to have seizures. I called the hospital to ask if this was true and the ER receptionist asked the doctor and told me yes, if I take Tramadol with Lexapro, there is a risk of me having seizures, then proceeded to tell me that the doctor said I can just take Tylenol. Oh really? Can I? Because we discussed this already. So not only did the doctor prescribe me something that could be life threatening, but he didnt even bother to inform me of the risk. I would not have been prepared, my girlfriend would not have been prepared. I tried getting this resolved and I was placed on hold for over 30 min, I had multiple people mistakenly pick up my line and then place me on hold again, and then I was transferred to a voicemail. NO ONE helped me. Do NOT go to this hospital!!!
