This used to be the hospital of choice in 2014 for my moms care, BUT NOT ANYMORE. This has been our WORSE experience dealing with the faculty of doctors, residents, nurses, and pct (cna). Now before I begin, not all the Nurses or CNA were bad, it was those who cause her setback which made it worse. The other staff were fine working with but the people who are constantly caring for you are the nurses and PCTs. I had my mom transferred out of another very negative hospital to get a piece of mind knowing her care will be well cared for but this was NOT the case. I had to be there EVERYDAY to advocate for her from morning to night and if I couldnt be there, I sent my family to watch over her. The Residents were not helpful at allall because they would not LISTEN to the facts I had to offer as her care provider. I had to tell them serveral times to listen to me and my experiences to get her well. Bad things would normally occur at night which NO ONE could explain, but while there, you just dont get the same results. Since being there at night to learn what was occurring, I WITNESSED the PCTs not following procedures and caused her to aspirate by laying her down with the feeding tube still running or giving her thin liquids which were not thickened properly. I had to catch their neglect and call them out and reported it to the charge nurse and nursing manager. But the doctors didnt believe me and wanted to continue pushing a G-tube. She had to go back to ICU and I was told after she came back to the regular floor she was cleared of all infections, then in 24hr, she had a new one which was a staff infection. I was told doctors meet twice a day but they generally come back with totally different reports or diagnoses. I reported this to the management. Their senior resident (McDougal) was very unknowledgeable, rude, and had her own motives which was NOT beneficial towards my mothers care and I requested she be relieved of doing anything pertaining to her. She pushed my mother into having a swallow evaluation while being lathargic only to fail (After I disagreed and requested NOT to have this test done several time until she is very alert). I had to actually post signs ALL over the room for her care since what I told them several times did not register and they still would not READ signs or charts and continue to give her improper care. (The fundamental of knowing) I then had to stop them all together and do it myself to prove they were doing things wrong for her care and thats when things started going up again until I can remove her from the hospital altogether. Also, she only picked up 1 lb from entrance until I took over her feedings nearly 4 weeks later. She then picked up 6 lbs in several days and her BP and sugar came back to a normal range. When I brought my own foods, her vitals was looking a heck of a lot better. The Dietitians were a big joke and definitely could not be trusted either. THEY KNOW EVERYTHING but yet, could not get my mothers health back up in the month they had her. REALLY? Even when I requested a discharge there was resistance and I was determined this discharge was going to take place quickly and we FINALLY got her out of this place. She came home with a bleeding Heparin shot wound I had to nurse close. Theres just too much negative. I would not recommend going here EVER again and will be going elsewhere if I have to get her medical attention. This was an absolute nightmare for Loyola to get this horrible in caring for people. The best people were the Chaplin, our Social worker, Speech Pathologist (whos expertise was not respected by the physicians), Respiratory and some of the nurses. Overall, I do rate them a 1 star because she came out worse from their care and had I not been there, probably connected to life support from the inexperienced staff still in learning mode and death ears. WHERE ARE THE SEASONED/EXPERIENCED Doctors at anymore? Loyola has lost my trust and confidence I had before. Since leaving, she has display great signs of progress. Thank God!

They started the process of killing my Mother. She was going to be a cancer "survivor". Her Dr. told her he was writing a profile up on her as a success story to put on his site and that after her surgery to remove her Ovaries and Omentum she would only have to go through a few low dose chemo and would be clear. My sister and brother took her into Loyola first thing when they opened and sat there literally until the lights were going off and people were going home. Somehow they didnt notice 3 people sitting in the waiting room. They turned the light back on in the office and started scrambling for people to help get my mother into surgery instead of rescheduling her and assuring her she would get in immediately the next day. They took her in and wheeled her out in a staggering 45 minutes. This procedure is supposed to to at least 2 to 3 hours so they can make sure all the cancer if any is out. Immediately my Mother started going downhill quick. Not long after she ended up in the Hospital in Elgin where they proceeded to deny her nutrition for 2 weeks. Quickly she ended up in Kishwaukee Hospital (the place they send you to die) and they starved her for another week until they started giving her nutrition when she was showing signs of imminent death and were talking my siblings out of hospice so they could keep running test after test when it was evident that she had no hope and my siblings insisted on Hospice. She died 2 days later. My Mother was on Medicare but also had cancer insurance and insurance from my father. Is this the "death Panel" treatment for elderly? All I know is what happened is indefensible, considering they took her for surgery after they were closing up. She told me the 2 Dr.s who did this. One got paid around $7,000 and the other one $9,000. Her Dr. in Dekalb, IL is also a disgrace. When my mother told him the details, he told her that that meant the actual surgery of removing 2 organs probably took about 15 minutes. He asked her if she would trust going back to Loyola and she said "I guess" and he said he wouldnt. Instead of reporting the situation, he kept quiet and I am sure sending people to Loyola still. My Mom didnt want me to say anything because she thought the Dr. would get in trouble which is something I do not understand. My siblings thought they could trust a hospital that was supposed to have such a good reputation but they treated my mother, ALL the hospitals treated my mother like her life and well being was low priority. In my eyes this is criminal conduct. It was willful and decisive, they decided to bring her in "after hours" and performed a rush job surgery on her. Think about it..15 minutes to remove Ovaries and Omentum. Look it up and you will see the procedure..if done properly..should of taken AT LEAST a couple of hours. They murdered my Mother.

So I will start by saying most the doctors and nurses are very helpful and great! My post is the security in this place is a joke. They never do there job. They pick and choose when they want to stop you. They are very unprofessional and do not know how to do their jobs. Unfortunately my family member has been in there for 8 weeks. I have been stopped 6 times out of over a 80 visits to give me a pass. They should every time or dont at all. Today when I was walking in with flowers for my loved one I stopped at the security desk by the gift shop, not for a pass, but for sciccors to cut the stems. There was a guard on the phone [JD] so I stood in front of him waiting for him to be off. When he did hang up he looked at me and turned his back to me and picked up his phone and started looking at numbers on the wall. So I said screw it and proceeded to go to elevators and head up. Figured the nurses will help me. Well as soon as I stepped on the elevator the guard began yelling sir. Now he didnt get up and I should have just went up so he would have had to get up and do actual work. But instead I got off and walked to the lazy guard, dont want him getting up. He started out by barking attitude at me that I cant just walk in. I politely told him sir I stood here for 5 minutes while your on the phone and you turned your back to me when you hung up. JD proceed to YELL at me that " I am one man with many jons!!" And put through the ringer, ID, my realation to patient, where I parked, patient name...thought he was going to ask for a finger print!! So morale of my ramble is J. Denning you need to take some anger management classes and learn to multi task. Remember to do your job every time, not just when you get an itch on your was to do your job. Your payed to protect and guard our loved ones. So do it and with a little respect for people and yourself. Fyi people here are dealing with sick loved ones and dont need your added disrespect and attitude!
