HORRIBLE!!!!!! Let me start off by saying the people at the facility are very nice caring people. However they definitely lack some basic medical knowledge. OK so on with the story. I have a cat which my son named Polka. Polka had a feeding tube placed in him about 3 weeks ago due to him having fatty liver disease. After the tube was placed in our cat he hasnt quite been the same. Polka started having issues walking, (he was very wobbly), laying down and he had severe drooling. I started doing some of my own research and after doing a lot of reading, his symptoms to me sounded like he was deficient in Thiamine (Vitamin B1). Last Friday June 10th 2016 my cats health took a drastic down hill spiral, he wasnt able to walk, he was incoherent and was having neurological issues. So I immediately took him to my primary Vet. I voiced my concern to my Vet about the Thiamine deficiency and requested him to give the cat a Thiamine Hydrochloride injection. The doctor did not seem to think that was the issue and gave Polka other medications. The following morning Polkas condition got even worse, he was not moving at all and was pretty much a vegetable. I then took him to Metropolitan Veterinary Associates. I again voiced my concern about the thiamine deficiency. The doctor did not seem to think the was the problem either. The doctor suspected Polka was at the end of liver failure or he had feline infectious peritonitis. The doctor made a recommendation of putting my cat down or placing him in ICU. I was quoted a price from $3000-$4000 for the ICU services and the doctor said his chances of pulling through were very slim. After already spending roughly $3000 on Polka this past month there is no way I could afford to do so. The next day I decided to take matters into my own hands. I went to cvs and picked up a bottle of vitamin b1 and immediately began giving my cat the vitamin through his feeding tube. Guess what? after 3 days of Polka getting the b1 he started perking up. On day 4 he was holding his head up on his own and sitting up by himself. On the 5th day was trying to stand up and take baby steps. Today is now the 7th day and he can finally walk normal on his own. I am totally disgraced with my primary vet and Metro. I spent an extra $2000 for all the unnecessary testing because some so called medical professionals could not diagnose a damn vitamin deficiency, that I diagnosed and treated myself for about $10. The most sad part is, my cat almost died and both practices suggested euthanasia. It makes me wonder how many innocent pets have died due to being misdiagnosed.

I have had three dogs and my cat there for emergencies over a period of six years. First visit was for dermatology. I was not impressed with Dermatology, and have learned since that my impressions were correct. It is $125 for a half hour first appt. She did not know about chow chows and their special skin needs. Then for stomach surgery when she ate part of a corn cob that was stuck in her stomach and couldnt pass through her intestines. Pre- surgery, however, they let us come back to the hospital part to say goodby before she went through it. The bill was $3000.00 but they told us in advance. The nurses were great. Then our cat was there as an emergency because she walked around the perimeter of our living room screaming after just having dental work at our vet. They found a big abcess that was infected. In short they almost let the cat die. The diagnosis was right but the treatment, lacing the abcess and putting in drains had me at my vet on Mon with an almost dead cat. He hospitalized her, gave IV antibiotics and cleaned the wound and the mess made at Met. Then our last experience was about two years ago when our dog didnt greet us at the door and i knew immediately something was very wrong. In this emergency the attending vet was very good. A blood vessel around the heart had ruptured and without all the details, he couldnt be saved. They were very kind and had a special home like room for all of us. So quality od care varies widely, with their strength being surgery but this is with the full staff during the weekdays. It is anyones guess the quality of who you get for the weekend emergency. My pet peeve is the demand for a credit card and prof that you can pay before you get anything done. I hate their fees and hate to use them for that reason. It makes less advantaged people have to make some horrible decision because of money. What about a sliding scale for less financially advantaged persons?

The folks that touch your pet seem geniune , i thank them and only them,, the rest of them vested in the business model will lie ,do cheat ,they steal and sell gloom and doom, tug on your emotions with a focus all to steal some extra cash from you.... here is their model. I do the very best for your pet , my experience says that, but verified, through more than one in that business , this place when they are done with your pet intend and will every single time , their sole purpose at that point is to kick your living ass into next year .... The other hand is they are a 24 7 deal and you may find yourself with no choice.. they cant be beat ,but they can be berated into being fair , just fair and less is unacceptable , they are unfair and that is a fact ... every client they have ever had needs to critique and never stop doing so untill someone in that group has the decency to decide to be otherwise ... Its very frustrating to be grateful and ashamed at the same time , but that is what will happen to you and you may have no choice .... these jerks need to be handled Update Angie the creepy woman who refused to acknowledge that theyre gouging is practice , refused and seemed to enjoy saying no way no how tough as are the lions share of opinions.. just had a worse incident with our pet , another place was significantly different and this one was more serious , these folks owe us an adjustment , they are a sorry excuse to their profession. Course the only thing they really care about is being a cash COW Ok just saw how Google catalogs all a person reviews ,funny how this is the only negative review , oh yeah thats right , most ... Most do not have bad intentions, this is just an example of the more rare than common of those who just do... They should be ashamed and own up to their undoubted greed first model

Poor-Fair. Some of the vets at Metro are good like the orthopedic surgeon and the residents. But if your dog has a neurological issue, be sure you go there armed with information and listen to your gut. Dr. Northington completely missed that my greyhound had had a very slight stroke (confirmed by necropsy). Dr. Northington only ordered an MRI of her neck instead of her brain! Kept her for a week to the tune of $6,000 (yes, take your wallet with you to Metro). He could never tell me what was wrong with her or what his treatment plan was. And he dismissed me when I mentioned a possible stroke. I decided to take her home and make an appointment at U of P. When Metro techs brought my greyhound out, she had a huge bedsore on her hip, so she obviously had not been turned regularly. There were no notes on her discharge about her having a bedsore, so I doubt Dr. Northington was even aware of it. The techs just handed me a tube of cream and told me it was "on the house." Greyhounds have very thin skin, so within days, bacteria entered that wound, and she became septic. I rushed her to Penn, but measures would have been heroic. Last time I saw her she was unresponsive and in an oxygen cage with a fever of 105. Her necropsy revealed e coli in every major organ of her body. My poor girl could have recovered with some rehab from a small stroke. And, of course, Metro and Dr. Northington claim no responsibility. Would I go there in an emergency again? Hell, no! Hindsight? should have gone immediately to Penn University or Quakertown. Regrets? that I didnt pull her out of Metro sooner. Grief? You bet. I miss my girl. She was only 10, and it was a senseless death. Damn you, Metropolitan! Damn you to hell.
