I had taken my cat originally to the cat vet clinic off of white oak in the heights. He would not eat, he had a fever and i was worried about him. Knowing there was something wrong with him internally, she even picked him up and squeezed his stomach so roughly that he screamed i feel that was when his gall bladder burst. She then took some blood and sent me home telling me if he hasnt eaten by the next day to bring him back in on Monday. That night i found him in my closet laying on his back with such a high fever I ran and got ice packs and tried to get his fever down. I wrapped him in ice and rushed him to the after hours at Sunset clinic. Before they would even look at him they demanded that i pay the 3000. The charges on the paperwork they had me sign said misc items, So while we are standing there debating the pricing my cat is laying in his carrying case dying. Finally I told them they were extorting money from me it has to be illegal but take the damn money. So finally they take him in the back. They kept him overnight, every time i called i was told that he was resting peacefully but he was "depressed". I paid them to do everything needed to keep find out what was wrong with him and keep him stable for me to be able to take him to the Gulf coast hospital in the morning when it opened. I was there first thing picked him up and rushed him to the gulf coast hospital. Of course i go through the same thing where they demanded 3200 total from me just to look at him, i paid it and they took him back. Immediately a technician comes out and tells me that he was so much worse than anyone expected, his blood pressure was so low that they had to give him a total blood transfusion to try to get his blood pressure up, but they could not save him. Sunset clinic failed in every way, they did not regulate his blood pressure , they failed to diagnose he had a ruptured gall bladder, the entire time he was there they took blood and gave him antibiotics and that was it. They extorted money from me and did nothing to for him, they left him in a cage the entire night as he was being poisoned to death. They have refused an apology, to refund my money, to even accept responsibility( sunset clinic and the cat hospital on white oak). This is my second animal that I have had die because of the negligence of this vet. Please think twice before you take your animal to this place at least during emergency hours. These people do not care about your animals all they care about is how upset you are knowing they can get that much more money out of you. This is not the only 24 hr vet, Gulf Coast is not even five miles away off of 610. I hate the extra stress and money it will cost me but i am going to sue them in order to get my money back, next is reporting them to the state and having their licenses revoked so they dont kill anyone elses animal. Sorry this is so long winded, but the loss is still very fresh and I think about the fact that I failed my cat and could have saved him had i not taken him to these places and trusting the word of these "professionals" and not pursing it further and getting a forth or fifth opinion. I am no expert but having to go to three different vets and not one of them was competent enough to figure out why he was so sick. It would be like me going into the hospital with a pain in my stomach just to be sent home with pepto bismol to be found dead the next day from a ruptured appendix or gall bladder. These people are supposed to be more educated than human doctors.

We have been taking our cats to the Cat Veterinary Clinic since Doctor Nancy Christensen first took over the practice years ago - when it was located in a little converted brick house at Greenbriar and Alabama. If you are a cat lover and consider your pets to be family, there is no better place in all of Houston to take your sick baby. Honestly, I could sit here and type all day relating the wonderful care my various cats have received over the years from Dr. Christiansen, Dr. Filip, and Dr. Tibbs. Awhile back, we inherited an older family cat who was ill with the Feline Kidney Disease many cats succumb to. Dr. Nancy was so good with her . . . she managed to bring that frail old kitty from 4 lbs when we got her to a whopping 6 lbs for the duration of kittys remaining years. We were again and again struck by how intuitive Dr. Nancy was with kittys care plans. She sees each cat as an individual spirit and her compassion and concern for her sick patients is genuine and true. It is impossible to fake that as it is clearly shown in her eyes. Dr. Nancy made all the difference in the world for our frail old sick pet, who eventually died at 18. Kittys life was infinitely better for having been treated at the Cat Vet Clinic. Dr. Filip removed many of kittys painfully crumbling teeth. He was incredibly knowledgeable about feline teeth problems and took the time to teach a bit to us. Dr. Tibbs once phoned 3 weeks after we brought home a different kitty that had stayed at the clinic for long-time care - because she "missed him" saying "we were friends" (she and our cat). She seemed on the verge of tears. All 3 doctors are gentle with and respectful of their little patients. Is it expensive to have a cat properly treated? Yes! Find good vet treatment anywhere that is not expensive. This clinic is no more so than any other. But here is something you can take to the bank - if your beloved cat is sick, there is nowhere else better for him or her to be taken for help. Hands down, the best vet clinic in Houston - for cats.

Ok, my experience is mixed. On the one hand, I was given some good and straightforward information by one of the doctors regarding an issue with my cat. And while I didnt agree with the tone in which I was being "lectured," eventually I think the doctor realized that Im actually a pretty concerned pet owner who wasnt appreciative of that level of condescension and the doctor soon changed the tone in which I was being spoken to. On top of that, I felt my cats head, mouth and ears were rather manhandled by the doctor, which to me equates to a less-than-stellar bedside manner. I try not to be one those neurotic pet owners, and I dont think I am for the most part, but I do love my cats and to see his head being jerked from side to side with the touch of a wrecking ball was disconcerting to me. All that said, I was able to learn something about my cat which I was unaware of prior to my visit at the Cat Vet. For that I am grateful because I wasnt informed of this issue with my cat at my previous vet. So as far as an informed, knowledgable staff, I give them high marks. But I would suggest their doctors work a little on finding that gentle touch with their patients, as well as a better tone of speaking to their clients, like me, who pay these very high bills that come with caring for a pet. I recommend them, but do watch carefully as they handle your pet. Bit rough if you ask me.
