my dad was brought here to go into hospice. most of the nurses and health care aids were very rude. a few were ok. none were great. they really didnt care to give much sympathy to me or my family.my sister would come in the morning, my mom and other sister in the afternoon, and i would come in the evening. spreading it out , so my dad wouldnt be alone. i would normally come around 7 pm and stay until 10 or 11 pm. Jan always had something to say about me being there late, like it affected her in anyway. she didnt think i should be there. my dad slept most of the time anyhow, and was happy to see me when he woke up here and there for a few minutes. but JAN THE GIRL FROM KENTUCKY SEEMED TO THINK SHE KNEW BETTER..... one night she insisted that i leave at around 9 pm. not wanting to make a big deal out of it i left. well my dad passed away early the next morning. Thank you Jan for taking away those last few hours that i had with my dad. i will forever curse you for that. i hope someday you are in the same situtation and can feel how i felt. maybe you should go into a different field of work, one that requires a cold hearted person, you would be better at that, your sure arent good at the job your doing now. and heartland, you might want to consider training you nurses and caregivers a little about caring for the sick patients family and how to me caring and kind. i will never refer anyone to this place and every time i drive by it my skin crawls with disgust. please put your loved ones in a better place then heartland, they may never leave this place.

Overall my care was substandard. Pain management was terrible. I was a total hip replacement and Im only 58. I have my wits about me and I know good care. They were not able to provide it. Pain management improved only slightly when I started charting my medications myself. There was often a delay in dispensing my pain meds and at least on one occasion they gave me the wrong type of pain medication. The CENA staff was kind and courteous but overwhelmed with too many patients especially in the 7am-3pm shifts. I often had to do things for my roommate because their staff was too busy to reply in a timely manner. The nursing staff was also overloaded. Too busy to extend basic kindnesses. One particular nurse was just rude to me and my roommate on more than one occasion. She had the audacity to tell me she did not have time to read all the notes in my chart. She had not read my Drs discharge notes and did not believe me that the Dr. had cleared me for discharge. I had to "remind her" that it was her job to read the Doctors notes. One morning it took her 40 minutes to bring me my pain meds after I requested them...as needed meds for break through pain. "Im too busy ...everyone wants their pain meds at the same time. " I tried to give her some slack but she was rude and overworked. I would not return to this place or recommend it!

My mom was at Heartland before and the experience was amazing but this time was just horrible. My moms room wasnt clean, when she would hit the call button they took their time in answering, most of the aides would be on their cell phones texting and not taking care of the patients. My mom complained about chest pains and Parker the aide was so rude I had to leave the room before I lost my cool. Parker is very rude to the patients, I dont know how long she was being disrespectful to my mom just so happen that day I happen to be there. My mom needed an EMS and I end up calling the EMS from off my cell phone because the head nurse was no where to be found. Once the EMS arrived they had to wait until the head nurse was located to transport my mom because they didnt have the paperwork ready. When my mom arrived at St John Hospital that day from Heartland my mom was severely dehydrated and she needed additional tests and had Ms Parker with her smart ass paid attention instead of being rude and nasty to my mother she could have caught it in time. We will NEVER send anyone to Heartland ever again. Please be very careful of this place.

Physical therapy services are excellent, Communication between nursing shifts was below average. When I called to speak to a nursing supervisor, she transferred me to the nurse.Communication with her primary care physician did not happen and orders that were faxed to the facility by him were never put into place. Communication between social services and family was horrible! Even though it was communicated on admission and several times over the next few weeks that she would be going to Ohio, discharge planning was not communicated to the family. I had been in touch with 2 social workers in the last 3 weeks with absolutely no follow up.I was told i would receive an update as to my mothers progress & level of care after her case conference to make the arrangements for her out of state transfer, again no follow up. I was informed by my cousin that she will be discharged in 3 days, not the facility. Would never recommend and we let her primary care physician know it, although he was not at all surprised by our experience. Absolutely unacceptable!!

This is my second time at Heartland Oakland. The first time I was here was for 3 months. This time, except for a few minor inconveniences my experience has been very pleasant. This time at Heartland, I just happened to be assigned to a room that I was unhappy with, and they graciously and successfully moved me to another room, and now I am in the same room as the first time I was here. I am in Room 203 and a lot of the staff, supervisors, nurses and nursing assistants know me from my first stay, much like family. I get good care. For the most part, when I turn on my call light, someone comes in a timely manner. I have one nurse in particular on day shift that takes excellent care of my needs. I have found the food to be really very good. I have no complaints about the food. If you have a loved one that needs this type of care in a rehabilitation facility, I would highly recommend Heartland Oakland.

My care was exceptional from the time I entered the door until discharge! The nursing care was well coordinated between the nurses and CNAs. My call light was always answered quickly and I always received pain meds quickly - never more than 5 minutes. The Physical and Occupational therapy was excellent and they got me on my feet and ready for home very quickly. They also looked beyond their specific discipline to maximize concern for the whole patient providing care and comfort whenever necessary. The facility was very clean, bright, welcoming to visitore and the food was very good. There were offerings from recreational therapy at least daily if not twice a day. Most impressive was the RESPECT I received and witnessed being given to all the patients. I have already recommended Heartland Oakland to others and when I have my second knee replaced I will absolutely want to return to this facility.
